Very large 16” tall by 18” wide exquisitely painted and signed pottery vase in near perfect condition with a very small blemish towards the top of photo 7. Featuring birds and butterflies. This piece is bound to be a definite standout in any collection of Native American or Southwestern art collection. (Or any art collection for that matter) Ruby Panana was born into the Coyote Clan at Zia Pueblo in April 1954, the daughter of famed potter Seferina Pino Bell who, over the years, taught Ruby the traditional way of forming raw clay into fine art. Ruby attended the Zia Day School through the fourth grade, then went to Albuquerque public schools and graduated from West Mesa High School. While going to high school, she often helped her mother with her pottery, then began to make small pieces of her own. She attended the University of New Mexico, working toward a degree in education. When the scholarship money was not enough to cover the costs of school she returned to the pueblo and to pottery. Ruby has been an active potter since 1983. She married and now lives at Jemez Pueblo but she creates some of the largest traditional Zia pottery today, in the manner of Trinidad Medina and Sofia Medina. Her work spans the gamut of polychrome jars, bowls, vases, wedding vases and canteens. She is best known for that kind of pottery that ends up large, with impeccably painted artwork on it.rn

All items not picked up by 12:30 PM March 25, 2023, will incur a storage fee of $20 per lot, per day. Items will not be released to Bidder until original invoice plus storage fees have been paid. If for any reason the Bidder fails to remove any of the merchandise purchased by 5 pm March 31, 2023, regardless of whether or not Bidder has paid invoice, items will be considered abandoned and Reno Babcock Auctions, LLC will have sole possession of any and all items. Said items will be subject to resale or disposal as Auctioneer sees fit.
